Hearts, Hearts and More Hearts

Happy Valentine's Day to all my friends and readers!  This month's challenge, CAS Love and Friendship, is perfect for the newly released ruffled hearts and Molten Magic technique. 

Here's what you'll need:
LG747 Ruffled Hearts
LS1004, You & Me
DPP Pearlescent Paste
Metallic F/X colors of your choice
DCP Metallic Gold Paste
DPK Palette Knife
LM2010 Paste Spreader
Removable tape
Small paint brush or Q-tip

Here's what to do:
Tape top of stencil to craft mat.  Lift stencil and slip card stock underneath.  Apply paste with paste spreader.   Remove card stock and set aside.  Repeat for second heart.  Set stencil, palette knife and paste spreader in a pan of water.  Sprinkle Metallic F/X over hearts by dipping paint brush or Q-tip into mica powder and gentle tapping over pasted image.  You may have to do this several times to get the coverage you want.  Heat the paste with a heat tool until bubbly.  Set aside to cool.

Tape You & Me stencil to card stock and apply Metallic Gold paste.  Remove stencil and set pasted image aside to dry.   Wash and dry stencils, palette knife and paste spreader.

Cut out hearts and trim sentiment to desired size.  Assemble on patterned paper and coordinating mat and you're done!  Ready to give to that special someone.

April Showers Bring May Flowers . . .

 . . . I hope that's true, since the San Francisco Bay Area received half of this year's total rainfall in the last six weeks!   It's been a very wet spring, but the flowers (and pollens) are loving it.  For the last post of the April challenge I've made an April showers and flowers card.

I positioned the Long Sunflower stencil (LL429) so that only the top part of the flower was on the paper.  And by flipping the stencil over, I was able to change the orientation of the flowers.  I also found it was easier to stencil the flowers on each side of the card, let them dry briefly, and then stencil the middle flower.   If you're making several cards, do all the same colored flowers at once so you'll only need to wash your stencil when you reposition it to color the next flower.  Choose bright colors for the flowers as pastels will fade away under the "rain."

For the rain drops, I used the Rain stencil (LJ905), and embossed it with Translucent Embossing Paste mixed with a touch of Metallic F/X, Navajo Sky.   

 I have a friend who is not feeling well and this might be a "sorry to hear you're under the weather" card for her.  Some of the others might become note cards with a "thinking of you" stamped inside.  I love choices!

Spring Clean . . . . and simple

Which for those regular readers on my blog know that CAS (clean and simple) is my favorite style.   And, After Dreamweaver Stencils' February challenge of St. Pat's or Green, aren't you a little tired of green? Then this month provides the opportunity of doing any color you wish . . . including green. However, you have to keep it clean . . . and simple! Yep. We are challenging you to create with your Dreamweaver products in a CAS style. This is our way of encouraging you to begin your "Spring Cleaning" a little early, and far more fun than sorting cupboards and washing windows!

 So, to start this month's challenge, I've chosen one of my favorite flower stencils, Wisteria (LG725).  Place the stencil on neutral card stock, anchor the stencil with a few small pieces of removable tape, and apply color to the flower petals and leaves.  Remove and clean the stencil and let the ink dry.  Position the clean stencil over the inked image and move it about  1/4 to 1/2 inch to the left.  Tape it in place as before, and color just the flowers in a lighter shade, as they will become the background.  Remove and clean the stencil and let the ink dry.  Finally, position the stencil over the flowers and leaves that you colored first.  Tape all sides with removable tape, using the top piece of tape as a hinge.  Apply Translucent Embossing Paste (DEPT).  Remove and clean the stencil and let the paste dry.   I've used ribbon and two colors of card stock for the mats, but the finishing touches are up to you, as long as it remains clean and simple.  Couldn't be easier!
