Happy Thanksgiving to all

I have many things to be thankful for and one of them is spending time with family.  We'll gather at my cousin's house tomorrow for a day of talking, laughing, catching up on what's been going on in each others' lives, and dinner, where everyone brings a special dish.   I wouldn't miss it!

But, it is Thursday, and the November challenge of Holidays, Clean and Simple, has two more weeks to go (which is really good, 'cause it gives me a chance to make more Christmas cards).   For today's post, it's still clean and simple, but I'm posting a set of Holiday Bags and Tags, which I made for a class I'll be teaching at Memories Live On in Cupertino on December 8.  So if you're in the area and would like to take the class, call the store at 408-446-9901.

The stencils used are Holiday Greetings  (LJ917) and Candy Cane (LL55) and there's lots of bling in the form of red and green glossy paste, glitter, glitter dots and gold paint.

There's more crafty goodness to be found on each team member's blog, so check them out, starting with Dreamweaver's blog, Dream it Up!

Clean and Simple Christmas

SPOILER ALERT – if you have a cat and are on my Christmas card list, quickly scroll down to the list of team blogs, click on a name and leave them some love.  You'll see this card soon enough!
I know.  I know.  Whenever I see "spoiler alert" I can't stop  – like a moth attracted to a light.  My apologies for spoiling the surprise.

Before we get to today's project, CONGRATULATIONS! to the winner of Week #4 Festively Distressed cross-promotion with the Ranger/Tim Holtz Distress Powders

 Denise Bryant
randomly chosen from team member Kristi Van Doren's blog

Denise, if you haven't already done so, send Lynell (lynell@dreamweaverstencils.com) your snail mail address so she can send you your prize package.

Thanks to everyone who played along with us and to Ranger Ink and Tim Holtz for a great product.

So here we go . . .

For a cat person, this stencil is purr-fect (couldn't resist that one).   Here's what you'll need:

Dreamweaver Products
Retro Sitting Cat (LL3020)
Kitty Words (LG741)
Glossy Black Embossing Paste (DGKP)
Palette Knife (DPK)
Stencil Brush (BHB/GHB)

Other
Pigment ink
Embellishments

Position Retro Sitting Cat stencil on card stock and tape all sides.  Apply glossy black embossing paste.  Remove pasted image and set aside to dry.  Wash and dry stencil and palette knife.
Position Kitty Words stencil on card stock and tape corners to hold it in place.  Using a stencil brush, apply pigment ink.
Cut patterned paper and mats to size; cut out Sitting Cat.  Assemble the pieces, add the embellishments and you're done!

Continuing with the "Getting Inky" challenge, I went back to one of the most basic techniques –  stenciling with pigment inks – which is great for showing off a stencil's beautiful details.

And I decided to go out of my comfort zone and use non-traditional Christmas colors.  It's really fun!

Here's what to do:
Begin by dry embossing the Line of Christmas Trees (LL532) using either a personal die cut machine or a light box and stylus.  If you use a die cut machine, remember to use new cutting plates and keep the stencil as far away as possible from the top roller.  This will keep the stencil from warping.

With the stencil still in place, color the image using a stencil brush and ink, remembering to rub off some of the ink from the stencil brush on to a paper towel before applying it to paper to keep the excess ink from seeping under the stencil.   This is one of those times where the Picasso tool comes in handy, allowing you to apply color exactly where you want it.

Trim to desired size, adhere to mat(s), then to patterned paper.  Add ribbon or other embellishment and adhere to card base.  There you have it!  This is a great card for making multiples.

Be sure to check out the other Design Team blogs for more ideas and inspiration and leave us a note to let us know you stopped by.  Then link your project to the Dream it Up! blog using Mr. Linky.  There's a twist to this month's challenge:  the two winners (one for best interpretation of the challenge and one for best usage of Dreamweaver Stencil products) will get to pick a stencil of their choice!

See you next week.

Happy crafting,
Liz

Christmas in August, Week 2

It's Week 2 of our Christmas in August challenge and I've chosen the newly released LJ923 Mittens for this week's project.
Trace the mittens on to patterned paper and cut them out.  Mat them on to contrasting card stock and added faux stitching with a white pen.  Carefully trim around the edge, adhere to coordinating mats, add button and bakers twine and adhere to card base.   Couldn't be easier!  I didn't have a coordinating button, so I painted a clear button with Winter Red Color Solutions Alcohol Ink (yes, I know . . . it looks green, but in real life it really is red!).

There's still plenty of time to get into the Christmas spirit.  Link your own Christmas in August creations to the Dream It Up! blog mr. linky, or email pics of your creations to lynell@dreamweaverstencils.com, for an opportunity to win this wonderful newly released Heart Ornament.

Don't you just love this new design? There are several newly released stencils and products from CHA last month, which you can view for yourself HERE. During the week of August 20th - 25th, the Dream Team will be posting all week with a hop on Saturday to top it all...featuring all of these new fabulous designs...in collaboration with the Woodware UK team. Just a little hint...you may want to buy all of these new designs now, so you are ready and waiting for the inspiration that will come your way that week! Meanwhile, check out what the rest of the team has been working on:
